You might have heard the story. We took on a well-funded six-term incumbent, who was endorsed by both Utah Senators and President Bush as well as all three of our primary local newspapers. The incumbent outspent us 6-1. We on the other hand had a well-organized campaign, a well-executed ground game, and used technology to our advantage in ways that our opponent was unprepared for. It’s been estimated that our ground game gave us a 10 point margin of victory, while our use of technology tools added another 10 points to that score.
I put the ground game to use running as a state delegate to help make Jason the GOP nominee. What I didn’t know before, I learned while working as a leader in Jason’s campaign. Prior to my arrival the only technology the campaign had was cell phones and a website. In the five weeks between the convention and the primary, I helped give Jason an online presence that was unrivaled. The ultimate compliment came when our opponent contemptably made reference to the “Chaffetz Blogging Machine” as if we weren’t playing fair.
